These sculptures in bronze vivify the commonplace animals that inhabit our streets. The animals we pass by every day until we don’t even see them. A stirring interaction between species imparts knowledge of how we are alike. We are exposed as only one segment of the animal kingdom.
Using a combination of photographs, innumerable hours studying wildlife and their anatomy I block out the sculpture in clay. Working for weeks and months I refine the clay, capturing the sense beyond anatomical correctness. At least the animals obtain a sensitivity. The bronze casting process is then undertaken by Atelier du Bronze where over the course of three months the sculptures are cast, polished and patinated. The process is complete.

Whether it's photographing in nature, sketching, blocking out ideas in clay, or working in bronze at the Atelier du Bronze foundry, each step brings me closer to the subject.
BIOGRAPHY
Canadian sculptor Sarah McLeod expresses herself through the fragile forms of urban wildlife. Cast in bronze, these timid natures stopped in a moment of time allow us to study their neglected presence.
The realism offered insistently asks us to notice and relate to others.
Working closely with Atelier du Bronze, the sculptures are cast in bronze and finished with hand applied colored patinas.
As a Canadian sculptor, McLeod is influenced by Marc-André J. Fortier, Joe Fafard, Paryse Martin and the Italian sculptor Willy Verginer.
McLeod has a deep interest in anatomy and works tirelessly with structure.
Growing up in British Columbia instilled in him an abiding interest in wildlife. Her early careers in silversmithing and the dental industry, where she created gold and ceramic crowns, gave her the ability to focus on minute, precise detail.
"What is the artist trying to achieve? Was he or she successful? Was it worth doing?" - Henry James
