Philippe Poullaouec-Gonidec was trained in visual arts in France in the 1970s. His commitment as an artist was confirmed in 1975 when he was selected as an exhibitor at the Salon de la jeune peinture (Jeune création) at the Musée d'art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. 


His interest in artistic creation continued in parallel with his prolific academic career as a professor and researcher at the Faculty of Planning of the Université de Montréal. These years will be punctuated by remarkable incursions into the art world, notably as the designer of certain installations such as: in 1991, Les pruches ou la forêt enchantée in Montreal (Canada) in collaboration with landscape architect Claude Cormier; in 1993, Les jardins des nuages in Niort (France) or in 2012, Scarified Landscape, three ephemeral landscape installations produced for the 2nd international edition of Landworks (Sardinia/Italy). 


For the past decade, in his studio facing the St. Lawrence River, he has been devoting himself more to painting and developing a pictorial universe in dialogue with his scientific concerns and interests in territories and landscapes. Leaving gesturality to the benefit of a narrative construction, he freely deploys a sensitive reflection, high in saturated colors, in superimposed flat tints and in peaceful and moving lines.
